Can a Plumber Fix a Boiler?

When considering your career options in the trades, you might be thinking about completing specific tasks, like designing heating systems or fitting bathrooms. With this in mind, you may be wondering as a plumber, are you able to fix a boiler?

Who can fix a boiler?

Fixing and maintaining boilers typically sits with Gas engineers; however, as a plumber with certain qualifications, you can also fix a boiler.

In the UK it is a legal requirement for Gas Engineers to be Gas Safe Registered, this is to ensure that they have the correct qualifications and are working to a safe and compliant standard. To become Gas Safe Registered, you will need to be ACS qualified, this shows you have the ability to work on gas systems. ACS stands for Accredited Certification Scheme. Passing your ACS exam and earning the CCN1 qualification is the standard route for becoming a professional gas engineer in the UK.

Essentially, plumbers can fix boilers but they will also need to be gas safe registered to do so, meaning they would also need a suitable gas qualification alongside their plumbing qualification.

What qualifications do I need to fix a boiler?

The good news is that our Premier Gas Course combines both your plumbing and your gas qualifications, meaning you’ll receive your ACS qualification (a necessity for becoming Gas Safe Registered) and your Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing so if you're looking to be a plumber but you also want to be able to fix a boiler, this is a good option to consider.
