What is the Gas Safe Register?

The Gas Safe Register is an official list of businesses and engineers that are legally permitted to carry out gas work. By law, all gas businesses and engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register. This helps to protect the public from unqualified engineers carrying out unsafe gas work.

What gas qualifications do I need to become a Gas Safe engineer?

To join the Gas Safe Register, you will have to…
  • Obtain your CCN1 qualification
  • Register with Gas Safe
*With a reassessment every year to retain Gas Safe status.

What are ACS and CCN1?

In order to become a Gas Safe engineer, you will first need to pass your initial ACS assessment.

ACS stands for Accredited Certification Scheme. When you pass your ACS exam, you will receive the CCN1 (Core Gas Safety) qualification. At that point, you will be well on your way to becoming a professional gas engineer.

Can I still be a Gas Safe engineer if I don’t have any experience?

To pass the ACS gas exam and qualify as a Gas Safe engineer, you must possess a thorough understanding of gas engineering already.
