Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems Certificate
(BPEC Unvented G3 Certificate)
This course is designed for any candidate wishing to install or maintain Unvented Hot Water Systems and has been introduced to ensure that plumbers and heating engineers are competent when working on Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems. This includes the installation of this equipment together with the knowledge of the safety requirements for all systems up to 500 litres in capacity, to meet the G3 Building Regulations.
At the end of the course candidates will receive a qualification certificate accompanied by an ID card that all installers must carry as it proves the high level of competence of their work.
Who is this course for?
The course is aimed at plumbers who wish to comply with the current building regulations requirements. Successful candidates will be deemed competent to maintain and install unvented hot water systems. The G2 certificate is also a requirement if plumbers wish to go further and obtain their full scope certification in Solar installation. Prior knowledge or previous qualification level is required and a basic understanding of the principles of domestic cold and hot water systems could help with certain aspects of the course.

The Building Regulations Part G3 defines unvented hot water systems as a 'controlled service' and as such, it is a legal requirement that all unvented hot water installations are notified to the local Building Control department. There are two methods of notification available to an engineer, the first one involves the submission of a Building Control Notice and involves the payment of a fee, the second option is to undertake a recognised qualification that allows the installer to self-certificate any systems installed. The course covers all aspects of unvented hot water installation including legislative requirements and safety issues, as well as the correct installation, commissioning and servicing of systems.
