This is a ‘hands-on’ practical course that will give you the skills and understanding to cover all areas of Dry Lining and Metal Stud Partitioning. We will teach you how to complete this type of work to a high, professional standard through various structured stages that will progress your development over the 5 days spent on the course.
This will all take place within our dedicated Dry Lining training area that has been specially designed for the purpose of this course. Throughout the course you will learn the many facets of dry lining and metal stud partitioning and what tools you will need. Rest assured, on completion of the course you will be competent and confident to take on any project needing dry lining or metal stud partitioning.

Part 1 - Dry Lining and Jointing
During the first 3 days of the course you will cover:
- Health and safety and the correct use of appropriate tools
- How to measure correctly and cut plasterboards to the correct size
- How to fix plasterboards to studwork, including windows and doors
- Fixing plasterboards to fit internal and external angles
- The 'dot and dab' technique using direct bonding of plasterboard to walls.
- How to tape internal and external flush joints correctly.
- Applying different types of beads, including angle and stop beads
- The correct method for using joint filler and joint cement.
- Sanding down and sealing for decoration leaving a smooth finish.
Part 2 - Metal Stud Partitioning:
During the final 2 days of the course you will cover:
- How to set out and construct metal stud partitioning
- How to transfer the track from ceiling to floor
- how to construct window and door openings
- How to measure, cut and fix plasterboard to metal stud partitions
- The application of drywall tapes to produce flush joints.
- Learning hand jointing techniques for internal and external flush joints.
- Sanding down and sealing for decoration leaving a smooth seamless finish.
Guided Learning: 5 Days On-site Specialist Training
Progress routes
After this course some students decide to go further and undertake other more advanced courses to broaden their scope of work. We recommend that completing an extension of the course and gaining a plastering qualification ensures that you as a student have the practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge of your work. This provides students who successfully complete both courses with a good grounding and the ability to carry out many tasks and increase their scope of work.
