This 5-day course has been specifically designed for you if you are a complete beginner. We will teach you the practical skills required to tile effectively if you have a project in mind or need to be updated on the latest tiling and adhesive technologies, just let us know and we will tailor the course just for you.
Who is this qualification for?
This course is designed for anyone who would like to learn the skills required to fit new tiles. It is structured for anyone who would like the skills to undertake basic tiling in a bathroom or a kitchen, for instance, as a DIY job in the home or even as a foundation course for those who are considering becoming a professional tiler and may consider further training at a later date.
This course is open to anyone. It is designed for adults who want to undertake small jobs around their home, but do not have the knowledge, experience or confidence to carry this out. You will however, be able to make the home improvements that you didn’t think you could before attending this course. The number of students on each course is just six guaranteeing a high level of personal attention from our experienced trainers who include CORGI registered plumbing and heating engineers.
There is also a 2-week Tiling Course which covers Tiling in much greater depth and includes more advanced techniques. The tutors delivering this course will share with you their knowledge from many years experience so you can learn the necessary skills to take on these jobs safely and correctly and to the right standard.
You will gain the highest standard of achievement
All candidates will receive a certificate to confirm their attendance upon completion of the course. It is also an option for individuals to sit an examination covering the aspects they have covered on the course, even though this course is non-accredited. This can be provided for delegates as an optional examination that can help those students who intend to progress onto other courses. However, delegates will receive a certificate accredited by Access Training. You will be working with one of our tutors in your own training areas and will receive training in the following skills during the standard 5 day course:
Areas covered

- Datum Lines
- Preparing substrates
- Laying wall and floor tiles
- Cutting around intricate or odd shapes
- Understanding grouts and adhesives
- Spreading adhesives and grouting techniques
- Learning what tools to use
- Calculating quantities of tiles and grout needed for any job
- Understanding different types of Tiles
- Understanding different types of Grout
- Selecting appropriate tiles for the job
- How to tile splash backs
- How to cut tiles
- How to form patterns
Guided Learning: 5 days
Progress routes
After this course some students also undertake other short courses to build on their knowledge and others decide to go on and complete a full qualification in other areas and go further with their training. If this is the case for you when you attend your short DIY course then we recommend that completing different areas as a package as this ensures that the student has practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge of work. This provides students who successfully complete their courses with a good grounding and the ability to carry out work in their homes both safely and to a standard that the student is happy with.
