Course overview
This 5-day course has been specifically designed for you if you are a complete beginner. We will teach you the practical skills required to carry out bricklaying effectively. Plus, if you have a project in mind or you just want to learn how to do it and we will tailor the course just for you. This bricklaying course enables students to learn the essential skills involved in bricklaying and can be regarded as a Foundation Level course designed for those wanting to tackle DIY and home improvement projects such as garden and boundary walls and outbuildings.
Who is this qualification for?
This course is designed for anyone who would like to learn the skills required to carry out bricklaying tasks. It is structured for anyone who would like the skills to undertake basic tasks such as a DIY jobs for a property or even as a foundation course for those who are considering becoming a professional bricklayer and may consider further training at a later date. Other trade professionals would also benefit from this course if they would like to add bricklaying to their services.
This course is open to anyone and is designed for those who do not have the knowledge, experience or confidence to carry this out. If you have a specific project in mind, from a simple garden wall to building an extension or garage, we will help you each step of the way. Simply bring along your plans or drawings and our professional tutors can advise and guide you toward successful completion.
You will however, be able to make the home improvements that you didn’t think you could before attending this course. The maximum number of students on each course is just six guaranteeing a high level of personal attention from our experienced Tutors.
You will gain the highest standard of achievement
All candidates will receive a certificate to confirm their attendance upon completion of the course. It is also an option for individuals to sit an examination covering the aspects they have covered on the course, even though this course is non-accredited. This can be provided for delegates as an optional examination that can help those students who intend to progress onto other courses. You will be working with one of our tutors in your own training areas and will receive training, depending on your progress, in the following skills during the 5 days spent on the course:
Areas covered
(ATW Certificate, any of the following aspects can be covered on the course)
- Calculating the number of bricks needed per square metre of wall surface.
- Calculating mortar quantities per 1000 bricks.
- Learning what tools and equipment are needed and how to use them.
- Using ties in cavity walling, pillars and piers correctly.
- Stretcher Bond brickwork
- English Bond brickwork
- Flemish Bond brickwork
- English Garden Wall Bond brickwork
- Cutting bricks correctly
- (bat, Half bat, Quarter bat)
- Pointing face brickwork
- Inserting a lintel or window
Guided Learning: 5 days
Progress routes
After this course some students also undertake other short courses to build on their knowledge and others decide to go on and complete a full qualification in other areas and go further with their training. If this is the case for you when you attend your short DIY course then we recommend that completing different areas as a package as this ensures that the student has practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge of work. This provides students who successfully complete their courses with a good grounding and the ability to carry our work in their homes both safely and to a standard that the student is happy with.
