Construction Training Courses. Learn Construction Skills

The Construction Skills Network states that the UK construction industry will continue to experience strong growth, with construction output expected to rise dramatically as we come out of the recession. The blueprint published by ConstructionSkills, forecasts that 348,000 more employees will be needed for the construction industry to meet expected demand - an average of 88,000 new recruits per year. Needles to say over the last few years this figure still hasn’t been met.

Example: Olympic Games - London 2012
In an industry that already required 88,000 new recruits every year, Construction Sector Skills Council has warned that that it will be vital if the industry is to deliver on all demands. The 33,500 predicted jobs include 24,000 trade and craft roles, with the London Olympics generating £2.5 billion in construction output over the next seven years.

Example: 3 Million New homes to be built
Before his exit from office Prime Minister Gordon Brown promised a 20% increase in the country's house-building programme, claiming 3m new homes would be built by 2020. The prime minister increased government plans to build 200,000 homes a year, by an extra 40,000 a year by 2016. The promise also ensured that £10bn would be spent on social housing being built over the next three years. Last year Mr Brown set ambitious targets to build 75,000 social houses annually by 2010-2011, so with a lack of skilled workers to work on these projects, getting trained now would lead to an exciting and busy future.
New houses being built will always be needed
As an example, Keith Mitchell, chairman of the South-East England regional assembly, said: "In the south-east we've already seen a 30% increase in house building over the past five years - but prices are still rising”.

Even at its peak over the past few years, the level of new-build housing was around 168,000 a year. But the shortfall is estimated at 40,000 per year even at it this time, so there is a huge amount more to be built as we come out of the recession.

Former Government Minister Yvette Cooper, acknowledged that the higher targets for house building were necessary just to meet recently published projections showing the need for house building would be higher than previously thought. "There is growing demand for housing in this country and supply is just not keeping up and that is why we have to be much more ambitious."
